プロスカーは、体内で男性ホルモンのテストステロンがジヒドロテストステロン（DHT）に変化するのを妨げます。DHTは、良性前立腺肥大（BPH）に関連しています。プロスカーは、前立腺肥大の男性患者の良性前立腺肥大（BPH）の治療に使われます。またプロスカーは、本医薬ガイドに記載されている目的以外にも利用されています。

Proscar (Finasteride) is used to treat the enlargement of the prostate gland in men, medically known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). As an androgen hormone inhibitor, Proscar blocks the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and reduces this hormone level in the body. This helps to shrink the swelling of the prostate and improve the symptoms of BPH. Finasteride under the brand name Propecia is also found to be effective in curing male pattern baldness on the vertex region of the scalp.
